Although it is not a very big place, it has a big heart.

The community of Humboldt is very gracious.

I have lived in Humboldt for a little over two weeks and the amount of support the community has shown for one another is incredible.

My first day on the job I was helping edit the paper before it got printed and there was a story about the atom hockey team making a donation to the Kinettes. Later that day

I was off to the Community Gathering Place for a story about a donation to the Humboldt Soup Kitchen.

In the days since, I have seen the bantam hockey team hold a teddy bear toss, the Humboldt aquatic centre host a swim day where instead of paying full admission, you could bring in some non-perishable food items for the food bank, the good neighbour store held their annual redistribution event where it was announced they have been able to redistribute over two million dollars back into the community since 1992, and the soup kitchen received another donation for their Christmas Dinner event, among others.

That’s at least six different donations in two weeks to approximately 44 different organizations. Very Impressive.

The community of Humboldt impresses me more and more by the day with their generosity.

Each time I go to cover events like those, the people making the donation talk about how important it is, not just for the community but also to instill good values in their children.

A lot of organizations in the area rely on the support of the community to continue operation and although there’s nothing saying you have to donate, it is a nice gesture to make if you can. These groups work tirelessly for the people in the community that need the support and without your support they can’t provide theirs.

It is important that that does not get lost on people because most know somebody that can be or is being supported in some way by a local organization.

This is also very important for the children because as you all know the children are the future. Instilling good values and teaching the kids good life lessons at an early age will only help keep the community of Humboldt and their organizations financially viable for years to come.

Growing up in this generation, I heard all the time about how children don’t have the same respect and work ethic that the generation before mine had. The people in Humboldt are making sure that they buck that trend and it is great to see.

I commend you Humboldt on being incredibly gracious. Keep up the good work.
