Another beautiful week of harvest weather. Another one to come. Hopefully! All us farmers are enjoying this weather, but we know it will not last. Please, Big Guy, let us finish harvest.
The other day I was watching TV and I was surfing as I frequently do. I caught the weather forecast on a B.C. channel and the weatherman had a big low pressure area over the bottom of B.C. That, he explained, was why the weather was sunny and nice. Then I happened to catch the weather on an Edmonton station. That weatherman had a large high pressure area over the bottom of B.C. He cheerfully explained that is why we were having warm sunny weather. I shook my head, how can there be a low and a high over the same area at the same time. I was dumbfounded! I was left with the impression neither one of those weathermen knew what they were talking about. So much for Environment Canada's weather forecast.
On the home front, the guys finished swathing the half section of custom swathing we took on. Now it's move to the hills to finish. With a little luck, some fixing and some babysitting, my 25-year-old machines will get the job done. Could not happen fast enough for me.
On the sports front, the Saskatchewan Rough Rider lost the Banjo Bowl to Winnipeg. It was brutal. Winnipeg must have sacked the Rider quarterback eight times in the fourth quarter. Where was the blocking? Hopefully, losing will build a little character, but it hasn't happened yet. Three players got into a fight outside a bar in Regina in August. They have been arrested and charged with assault. Sucks to be them! The rest of the team will be dealing with them and after that Saskatchewan Justice will have their day in court. Bad boys, bad boys, bad boys.
I know when people are in a bar, after several drinks some get feeling really smart or they think they are. The guy who picked a fight with three football players should have been holding up a stupid sign. The football players are all in good shape, know how to take a hit, all over six feet tall and obviously tough. The guy sleeping on the pavement at the end of the scuffle got what he deserved. That's right, hold up your Stupid sign now, Einstein!
In world news, U.S. President Barack Obama wanted to have a military strike in Libya. He wanted to retaliate for the poison gassing and killing of 1,400 men, women and children. The time to strike has passed. If Obama was going to do a military strike he should have just done it. Instead he went and asked Congress and the United Nations for agreement to hold a strike. They could not agree on anything so now the window is gone.
This war has already killed a 100,000 people with bombing, shelling and gunfire. What about them? Not nice to belittle, but the 1,400 compared to the total is not big. One third of the population of Syria is in refugee camps in other countries. This is a sad, bad situation continuing on and on.
Now Russia, United States and France are negotiating with for Syria to give up its supply of poisonous gas. In the meantime the war continues. I always wonder about "the rest of the story." Are we given all the facts by the media? Who released the poisonous gas? Did the Syrians do it? Did the Taliban do it? Why did Syria have a supply of poisonous gas? Who else has access to the gas? Lots of questions and not many answers, as usual.
Joke of the week: One Sunday just as the church was full of people the Devil rushed in the door, shot off a bolt of lightning and yelled "I am the Devil." People started yelling and screaming and running for the doors. Everybody, but one little old man who sat quietly in his pew. The Devil rushed up to him and said "Aren't you afraid?" "Nope" said the little old man "I have been married to your sister for 50 years."
