Humboldt ministerial Easter message: Freedom in the spirt of the Lord

"It feels like there is freedom in just being able to celebrate Easter this year; attend services without mandates; visit family and friends without restrictions," said Reverend Brenda Curtis of the Westminster United Church.

"This year, I pray that you will feel free; knowing that because of Easter morning, you are," said Reverend Brenda Curtis of the Westminster United Church.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."
— 2 Corinthians 3:17 NRSV

How do you celebrate Easter? Is it time to break out the chocolate you put away for Lent? Give thanks for blessings? Sing a few hallelujahs? Or perhaps its just more of the same old for you? Another long weekend? A day off work? An opportunity to sleep-in?

I have to say that after two years of the pandemic, it feels like there is freedom in just being able to celebrate Easter this year; attend services without mandates; visit family and friends without restrictions.

Whatever the day holds for you I hope you will feel God in the warm sun, the melting snow, the greening grass, the budding trees and the longer days. I pray you will experience resurrection in the touch of a loved one, the smile of a friend, and the deep breath you draw into your being when you step outside that morning.

And wherever you feel the Spirit of God that day may you also feel a sense of freedom: freedom to soar, freedom to laugh, freedom to sing, freedom to cry, freedom to love, freedom to be. This year, I pray that you will feel free; knowing that because of Easter morning, you are! Hallelujah! Christ is risen!
