'I refuse to be a prisoner in my house'

Dear Editor Most of the "Safety Tips" printed in the Oct. 3 News-Optimist are things I have always done. But there is one that disturbs me: "When going out alone, make sure to tell friends or family." I live alone, as do many people.

Dear Editor

Most of the "Safety Tips" printed in the Oct. 3 News-Optimist are things I have always done. But there is one that disturbs me: "When going out alone, make sure to tell friends or family."

I live alone, as do many people. I go out alone all the time - I have no choice. I have no family here and, if I did, I wouldn't call them every time I leave the house. I certainly won't call a friend. What would they do anyway, except worry - if they choose to! I refuse to be a prisoner in my house. I have to take care of my business and I do have a life.

I would like to hear that something definite is being done about the drug-dealing, gangs and illegal guns, instead of just trying to frighten honest citizens.
