Dear Editor
Anyone who participated in any aspect of the last two Wounded Warriors Weekends in Nipawin knows what an incredible event it is for giving back to those who have given so much. This year's event is all set for Slave Lake, Alta. with close to 200 warriors from across Canada, the United States, England and Australia landing in Edmonton on Friday, Aug.1. The cavalcade will travel from the Edmonton airport to Westlock where a large contingent of motorcycles will join the buses.
If you would like to be part of the event a Charlie's Charter bus will be leaving early Friday, Aug.1 to pick up some of our wounded warriors and there are limited seats for other passengers. Cost for the return trip is only $50. The bus will return Tuesday, Aug. 5. The route goes from Tisdale to Nipawin, Prince Albert, Saskatoon, North Battleford (where the Legion will provide lunch), Lloydminster and bypass Edmonton to hopefully join the cavalcade at Westlock.
Slave Lake has an abundance of hotels and motels that may be booked online through www.expedia.ca.
The website www.woundedwarriorsweekend2014.com has information, including testimonies from some of last year's warriors. Slave Lake also has a Facebook page. Some of the events include the Lieutenant Governor's Gala with both Donald Ethell of Alberta and Vaughn Solomon Schofield in attendance and the Heroes' Hoedown Monday. The All Veteran Parachute Team from North Carolina will be making jumps and the Northern Gateway Motorcycle Association will run rally events all weekend. Some of the super entertainers at the events will include Teneille, Bob McGrath, Bobby Curtola, the American Bombshells and Blake Emmons.
The warriors will enjoy fishing, golfing and other events. Those who attend will also have the opportunity to volunteer at events and get to know some of the warriors personally.
To book your seat on the bus you may email Verda Hoppe at vw.hoppe@ sasktel.net or call 306-862-5485 and leave message.
Don't miss out on a super opportunity to be part of a wonderful event!
