With all of the devastation currently going on in Fort McMurray is it hard to feel good.

While I feel horrible for all of the people who are being affected by the terrible fires I do still feel a sense of pride.

It is nice to see a large number of people doing what they can to help the people who are being affected by this terrible tragedy.

I have seen lots of people and businesses jump to help support the Red Cross in Alberta, with funds going to help the victims and relief fund in the province.

There was the Saskatchewan Day of Caring last week which raised $641,110 and as of the morning of May 9 I heard that they were up to over $800,000 after the website was left up over the weekend.

Incredible.

Add on the Canadian Governments share of 100 per cent and the province of Saskatchewan raised over $1.6 million.

There have been businesses do what they can including pledging portions of their sales going towards the Alberta Red Cross.

There are people on the internet who make their money making Youtube videos and live streaming online who setup an entire stream for the purpose of raising money for Fort McMurray and then they matched the donations provided during the show to raise even more money.

Canadian golfer, Graham DeLaet, a Weyburn, Saskatchewan native, pledged to donate $500 for every birdie he made in his last tournament. While he did not have the greatest week, finishing in a tie for 77th he did dot the scorecard with 11 birdies resulting in a $5,500 donation.

Many sports franchises have also gotten in on the act, including some from the United States, like the St. Louis Blues and even the National Hockey League themselves.

The Government of Saskatchewan also got in on the act providing $250,000 of support to Alberta Red Cross.

While some of those numbers do not seem like a lot in the grand scheme of things every little bit adds up.

From reports I have been reading the Alberta Red Cross has been able to raise north of $50 million.

Wow.

It is great to see the support that has been coming in for this terrible situation. It is unfortunate that the people of Fort McMurray have been put in this situation it is nice to see that they are being rallied behind and supported by a large number of people, companies and governments.
