Dear Editor
I am considering selling my homes in Cochin due to the recent action of specific local elected officials. Their actions have made me feel: unsafe in my home and unsafe in our community.
My fear of these people is based on events over the last week, including a town meeting. Truly, if I wanted to be dismissed, undermined and ganged up on, I would move to an eastern city where the mayor and his brother were caught by the media menacing just about everyone, including the press. If I wanted to live in a community where people are afraid to speak up, I'd move to Syria. If I had wanted to move myself and my family to a place where men tell me what to wear, I'd move to a fundamentalist state. If I wanted to feel powerless, unheard, not consulted and verbally abused, I'd move to totalitarian state such as North Korea.
I realize that by informing the public of my deep-seated fear of remaining here that it will be harder for us to sell and possibly driving down Cochin property values considerably. However, this is a small community, and I believe people have the right to know why I am now making the decisions I must make in order to ensure my family's safety.
