It was just a joke

The News Optimist's April 1, 2011 headline and associated "article" were a hoot. We were away at the time and a friend emailed a copy to us.

The News Optimist's April 1, 2011 headline and associated "article" were a hoot. We were away at the time and a friend emailed a copy to us. Yes, the headline sucked us in but upon reading the body of the article it became clear that it was an April Fools Joke and we had a good laugh. The headline of the next issue should simply have read "GOTCHA" .

One is reminded of Orson Wells' 1938 Halloween episode of War of the Worlds on Mercury Theatre on Air. It spawned the 1953 War of the Worlds movie staring Gene Barry and Ann Robinson and Steven Spielberg's 2005 remake staring Tom Cruise. Will "our" great 2011 joke result in a movie? Not likely but it will sure be talked about for years.

I have one suggestion to those who were "bent out of shape" over this. Lighten up.
