Most people like to look forward to some precious time with a loved one, where no one, or nothing, interrupts that valuable one-on-one communication. That priceless commodity, called personal undivided attention, where the rest of the world can go by, with no distraction, oblivious to the clock, is wonderful.
How about such an experience with the Lord himself, the one who created you?
Psalm 84:10 says “One day with The Lord is better than a thousand anywhere else.” It speaks of the Lord “courting” the reader. This brings a new perspective on something they call “worship”. The Psalmist tells about a relationship, few people in the world ever discover, where the Divine interacts with a man or woman. You just talk about anything, then listen to His heavenly responses.
Psalm 119:72 says “the law of thy mouth is better than thousands of gold and silver”. It is as if the very utterances from the Lord’s mouth, which are capable of changing events, are like heaven’s love gestures to the ear of a child of God. It causes you to feel so rich. No wonder the Bible says for us to “wait on the Lord” (Psalm 27:14), and our courage will increase as our hearts grow stronger and our problems seem less.
There are times when people who are “in love” feel they can conquer anything, a new spring in their step and a joy that shows all over. Isaiah takes this concept further by saying, “surely, they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not grow weary, they shall walk, and not faint”. This is what comes of quality time with the lover of our very souls, a feeling that we could fly, and amazing energy for any task, or problem.
What was it that made the disciples wait for ten days “in prayer and fasting” at the word of the Lord, until, in Acts chapter two, the Holy Spirit rushed in, and settled upon them until they were “filled with the Holy Spirit”, spoke in other languages, and saw tongues of fire. The “Holy Spirit” is Who He is. What strength and refreshing there is in the presence of our wonderful Lord!
How great to step back from problems of life and enter into the Lord’s embrace. That is what prayer, and time with Jesus, will enrich you with. Proverbs chapter 18, verse 24, says “there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother”. When you walk out of that chamber with your lover-Lord, He doesn’t leave you. Rather He “sticks” to you. It doesn’t end with “Amen”. You’ll never walk alone, if you have given Him that space in your life and thoughts. You never need to be lonely, anymore.
I hope this will help you get excited about something that is so easily available as prayer, and waiting in a place with the Lord. He truly is exciting and fulfilling to the lonely heart. In fact, there is no one else to compare to what He is always ready for, and waiting to offer. Don’t walk far away from His embrace. Instead, be eager to run with Him. “Take me with you; come, let’s run together! The King has brought me into His bedroom” Song of Songs 1:4 (NLT). Such is true worship. Why not come close to your Lord right now?
