Dear Editor
I am not happy with the way the politicians are acting toward the refugees walking across the border and seeking asylum in Canada.
Ralph Goodale’s bluster that they “must obey the law” comes across as phony and not genuine. Since when is it against the law to seek asylum in Canada?
The Conservatives have 14 people running for the leadership of the party. Nearly all those running for the Conservative leadership are against taking these refugees. Not very Christian, as far as I am concerned.
These refugees come with the clothes on their back. I have no problem with the immigration officials checking for terrorists. These refugees come only seeking to raise their families in peace.
Where is the Canada I know? Where is the Canada where neighbour helps neighbour? Where is the Canada where if a family has health hardships we band together and the community puts on a fundraiser? Where is the Canada where, if a family’s house burns down, we as a community band together to help them with clothes and a place to stay.
That is the Canada I know and want to live in.
