There are two leadership races happening in this province over the next couple of months, which means we’re going to see a lot of politicians come to our neck of the woods to try to get the votes of local party members.
If there’s anything I want to see when they come is a case for why Northeasterners should vote for them.
What I’ve seen so far is the leadership candidates are good at talking in generalities: improve the economy this, fight against the carbon tax that.
However, if you’re coming to this region, the candidates should have somewhat of an inkling what they’d do for us, even if that means connecting the generalities with something that’s specific here.
In Tisdale, the big issue that I could see coming in the next month or so is the end of the Kelsey Trail Health Region and all of the economic benefits that come with having the headquarters of the region in the town. I’m curious: what would the leadership candidates – of all parties – do to prevent all of the economic benefits from going to Saskatoon?
I’m sure there’s much more issues coming. If I were a party member of these two parties, the candidate to get my vote is the one that connects locally while keeping the entire province in mind.
