Poll wording flawed

Dear Editor The Feb.

Dear Editor

The Feb. 2 edition of the News-Optimist reported that the previous week's website survey asked, "Are you in favour of raising the North Battleford Recreation Cultural Capital Facilities levy by 75 per cent to fund all four components of the CUPlex?" You further reported the results were as follows: Yes - 12 per cent; No - 88 per cent.

I would question whether all respondents to this poll understood the levy was a $100 per year levy. In my view, a fairer question would have asked whether people were willing to increase their levy by $75 per year, or even by $6.25 per month to have the four components of the CUPlex built.

As an aside, the New Horizons golf group increased their fees several years ago by 100 per cent, from $1 to $2 per game.

You then stated in the Feb. 16 edition, " voters gave a resounding thumbs down to raising the City's Recreational and Cultural Capital Facility levy by $75 a year." I would strongly question the legitimacy of this statement in that your original poll may have been flawed.
