Put the plug in the sink

Every Sunday I review the events of the past week looking for lessons that God has taught or is attempting to teach me.

For example, these past seven days were satisfying, filled with enough work to supplement our income but with little enough to allow me to enjoy time with friends and family. There was Monday's visit to the dentist and a clean "bill of health" along with significantly whiter choppers. Lesson learned: good dental hygiene pays off. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday saw the submission of several articles for publication. It also included the final edit of a report on the composting of chicken manure. Lesson learned: be open to explore new things (editorially speaking, of course).

Thursday is always special with my weekly Toastmasters meeting followed by music practice with two dear friends. We call ourselves The Trio. Imaginative, eh?

Friday morning I took a special friend to the airport, only to discover she'd misread her itinerary and missed her flight by five minutes. Lessons learned: double-check the itinerary and failing that turn the disappointment into an unexpected gift of fellowship.

Then there was the day I inadvertently dropped something down the drain in the bathroom sink. I can't even remember which day it was but I haven't forgotten the sinking feeling in the bottom of my stomach. "Please God, please don't let it clog the pipes," I implored. So far, so good but I learned two lessons: first, be sure to put the stopper in the sink when performing certain tasks. Next, be alert to breaches in my fellowship with God because those gaps can render me vulnerable to defeat.

"You have not gone up into the gaps [breaches] to build a wallto stand in battle." (Ezekiel 3:5-NKJ) God told His people.

When temptation calls, always put a plug in the gap!
