Dear Editor

The announcement by premier Brad Wall Aug. 28, regarding replacing Saskatchewan Hosptial and enhancement of other community services for the mentally ill is a long awaited move to providing quality of life to a vulnerable population. People will be able to move through a continuum of care towards their attainable recovery level without being stonewalled by lack of facilities and programming.

Many individuals, groups and organizations have helped to raise the social consciousness of the different governments in this province as have members of government themselves, such as Len Taylor, who has worked tirelessly to see a new hospital come to fruition.

Our association offers heartfelt thanks for the announcement of the building of Saskatchewan Hospital. As advocates for mental health needs in the province we see this is a major step forward.

Saskatchewan was once known as a leader in mental health care and again, this announcement can only underscore a dedication to quality service to mental health needs in this province.
