Dear Editor
There’s a concrete pool, roughly five feet by five feet and five feet deep. It’s in the middle of Central Park adjacent to the library. I don’t know its history or much about it, but at one time it must have been a beautiful fountain. Now, however, it is more than an eyesore, it is a safety hazard.
I called 911 one sunny afternoon as an elderly fellow with a walker had fallen in. He had a concussion and could not climb back out.
That was a couple of years ago. And this is a place where wedding pictures are taken and parents let little ones play.
I am sure the library folk have stories and are tired of standing guard over this anomaly that no longer makes sense.
I would like to see an above ground fountain or flowerbed or at least the hole filled in. I think the City has the equipment and the wherewithal to do something about it. The cost could perhaps be covered by a community improvement grant. Or could be a project for volunteers and Communities in Bloom.
This is so Central Park will once again be a place to gather rather than avoid.
