Society looking for new blood

Dear Editor

At a recent meeting of the Battlefords North West Historical Society, vice-president Larry Romanow challenged the members with a question, following a brief summary of what he had to say.

"Where are we going from here? How many of us will be around in the next five, 10, 15 years?"

The challenge - "Now is the time to take action to make sure BNWHS continues into the future. The RCMP and the armed forces are continuously recruiting. We, each and every one of us, should be reaching out to others to join the society."

The members were pleased with Larry's presentation. There were several ideas and suggestions that we hope to explore.

This challenge is timely in that our members are "getting on in years" and our numbers are dwindling. Campbell Innes was instrumental in founding the Battleford Historical Society in 1924. It was later named the Canadian North West Historical Society, now Battlefords North West Historical Society.

The society has been serving the Northwest for 89 years. We encourage anyone who is interested in our history to join us in our efforts to continue to "identify, conserve, honour" the history of our area.

BNWHS meetings are held at the Battleford Lions Den on 22nd Street in Battleford on the third Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. except for June, July, August and December.
