Terrorists attack freedom of faith

Dear Editor Another unfortunate attack in France has shaken the world.

Dear Editor

Another unfortunate attack in France has shaken the world. It is tragic to hear the loss of any innocent life, that too of those who were practising their right to worship, a right given to us by God, a right to have any faith and practice it freely.

However, this right has been usurped or damaged throughout history by people of various faiths.

Here, as a member of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I would like to openly condemn the attack in France, and mention Islamic teachings regarding freedom of faith, inclusive of all religions.

In verse 22:40 of the Holy Quran, where God allows you to defend yourself in case of an attack, it mentions that one must also protect all places of worship including churches, synagogues and mosques. It mentions these places by name! Thus, this is the command given to Muslims in regards to freedom of faith.

The Holy Quran doesn't only ask Muslims to let others practice their faith, but it also commands Muslims to provide them with protection to ensure their security and right of worship.
This is the teaching of Islam.

The actions of cowardly terrorists, who kill innocents and don't spare even the peaceful worshippers, are absolutely contrary to basic fundamentals of Islam.
I hope and pray that the perpetrators of recent terror attacks are swiftly brought to justice. I also hope we don't fall prey to discrimination against any faith or race. This is one major factor that undermines the unity of a nation.
