For sports fans who like variety the best time of year is nearly upon you.

After a summer of having just baseball and soccer to watch the sports world is about to be full of action.

The month of October marks the beginning of the Major League Baseball playoffs, and the beginning of both the National Basketball Association, and National Hockey League regular seasons.

In addition, the Canadian Football League will be in the final month of their regular season, the National Football League will be in the second month of their season, and Major League Soccer will be in the final month of their regular season as well.

That means sports virtually all day everyday.

So what exactly do we have?

Well with Major League Baseball the playoffs, like in any sport is terrific theatre.

For those who have watched the Toronto Blue Jays over the last two season you know exactly what playoff baseball is all about, and while the Blue Jays will not be in the playoffs this year the playoffs still figure to be riveting.

We have the Cleveland Indians, who are fresh off winning 22 games in a row, the Los Angeles Dodgers, who until a recent slump were on track to potentially set an all time wins record, the Houston Astros, who have been one of the best teams in baseball all season long and then of course some of the traditional teams including the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and New York Yankees.

Then of course you have the start of the NHL and NBA season, where your favourite team has a fresh start and a chance to be hoisting the league title at the end of the year.

In the CFL we are hitting the stretch drive as the playoffs begin to appear on the horizon.

Can the Saskatchewan Roughriders slip past the B.C. Lions and into fourth spot in the West Division?

Can they then run the table in the playoffs and be the East Division representative in the Grey Cup?

Can the Ottawa Redblacks defend their Grey Cup title on home soil?

Will the Calgary Stampeders make amends for last season’s Grey Cup loss and win in Ottawa this year?

Or will some other team emerge with Canadian football’s Holy Grail when the dust settles?

There is still plenty to find out.

In the NFL, with the season entering month number two which teams will separate themselves as contenders, and which ones will turn into pretenders?

And finally in the MLS, can Toronto FC make amends for their league final loss in a shootout?

And can they set an all time record for the most points in league history?

The month of October is a terrific time in the world of sports, and many of the questions posed will be figured out.

For sports fans the time is nearly here to buckle your seat belts and get ready for a wild ride through the month of October.
