PRINCE ALBERT — A man who was wanted by police in relation to two shootings this month has been arrested.

The arrest follows an investigation including members of the Prince Albert Police Service Crime Reduction Team (CRT), Proactive Policing Unit (PPU), and Patrol, say police.

On Aug. 19, at approximately 8 a.m., members of the CRT and Patrol were able to arrest the 19-year-old man outside a business in the 800 block of 15th Street West, say police. Through a further search incident to arrest, officers located three grams of methamphetamine, 32 grams of cocaine, bear spray, $360 Canadian currency, and other items consistent with drug trafficking.

As a result of these investigations, the 19-year-old man has been charged with:

  • possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking;
  • possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000;
  • two counts of aggravated assault;
  • two counts of discharging a firearm in a reckless manner;
  • attempted murder;
  • forcible confinement; and
  • multiple other firearms-related charges.

The shootings

The first shooting occurred on Aug. 3, when at approximately 12:30 p.m., police were called to the 1600 block of 17th Street West where they located an injured 26-year-old male. He was treated by Parkland Ambulance paramedics and transported to hospital with what were later determined to be non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

The second shooting occurred on Aug. 12. While conducting routine patrols in the South Hill area at around 7:10 a.m., an officer noticed an injured 29-year-old male sitting in the middle of the road on 2nd Avenue West with an injury consistent with a gunshot wound. The suspect had fled the scene, say police.

Police say they learned the shooting occurred at a residence in the 2900 block of 1st Avenue West. The area was then contained and officers detained three individuals from the residence for further investigation. Members of the Prince Albert Police Service Emergency Response Team (ERT) and a K9 officer with the Ministry of Corrections, Policing, and Public Safety also attended and cleared the residence. Members of the Saskatchewan Marshals Service also assisted with scene containment. No charges were laid at the time, but the investigation continued.
