MARTENSVILLE — As part of a drug trafficking investigation, RCMP found and arrested two people Aug. 7 in Martensville, saying potential illicit drugs were destined for the Spiritwood area.
Saskatchewan RCMP say officers with the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team located and arrested two individuals in a parked vehicle in a parking lot of Martensville as part of a drug trafficking investigation.
While searching the vehicle, officers located and seized approximately 891 grams of cocaine, 629 grams of methamphetamine, 55 grams of crack cocaine, $7,990 in cash, a conducted energy weapon, an expandable baton, and other evidence of drug trafficking.
As a result of investigation, a 45-year-old Saskatoon woman and a 55-year-old Pelican Lake First Nation man are each charged with:
- possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine;
- possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine;
- possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose;
- possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000; and
- possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession is unauthorized.
LANIGAN — In another incident, RCMP charged a Saskatoon man with drugs and driving offences after a high-speed chase near Elstow.
On Aug. 14, at approximately 7:50 a.m., Lanigan Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) were making proactive patrols and attempted a traffic stop on Highway 16, west of Elstow.
The vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed and did not stop, say police, fleeing instead. Officers observed that a backpack was thrown out the vehicle window. The backpack was located and seized by police.
Shortly after, officers located the vehicle abandoned in a parking lot near Allan. Officers searched the area, and two males and a female were arrested.
Police say that during subsequent investigation, officers located and seized approximately 20 grams of a substance believed to be carfentanyl, approximately 15 tabs of a suspected synthetic opioid, a small amount of methamphetamine, additional unknown pills, and drug trafficking paraphernalia inside the backpack. The substances will be sent to Health Canada for further testing.
A 45-year-old man from Saskatoon is charged with:
- one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle;
- one count, flight from police;
- four counts, possession for the purpose of trafficking; and
- one count, possession – methamphetamine.
- The other male and female were later released without charge.
