CONQUEST - Two longtime storefronts in two local communities have just gone up for sale following a decision made earlier this spring.

The Co-op buildings in the villages of both Conquest and Macrorie are now listed as up for sale with local realtors RE/MAX Shoreline Realty.

The Conquest store location, measuring at approximately 3104 square feet, is listed at a selling price of $49,900, while the Macrorie location, measuring approximately 4896 square feet, carries a price tag of nearly ten times that amount, listed at $399,900.

Both stores now being on the market comes after the vote and decision that were both made in April at a Co-op membership meeting held at the Macrorie Hall, where the public was made fully aware of the growing issues that had been facing the local Macrorie & District Co-operative for some time, including aging infrastructure, declining financials, and a growing, sizable mountain of debt that seemed to spell out the inevitable conclusion.

With that, members voted in favor of dissolving the Macrorie & District Co-operative Association, with a voter result of 87 to 27.

From that point, the Association appointed a liquidator who assumed the responsibility of carrying out the process. In addition, it was said that the Board of Directors would distribute any unallocated surplus dollars and non-statutory reserves to the Conquest and Macrorie fire departments.
