OUTLOOK - Some more summertime fun is awaiting people in the town of Outlook later this month.
Those who were in attendance for the community's Canada Day events on July 1st noticed that there was no annual fireworks display at the end of the night. This was due to the fact that the west central area, much like most of Saskatchewan at the time, was under a fire ban advisory when such events were being planned.
The public was told at the time that another evening would be arranged where indeed, fireworks would light up the Outlook sky for another summer.
However, in planning the postponed pyrotechnics, things were taken a few steps further and as such, the town has planned what's being called the first annual 'Great Potato Festival'.
Celebrating spuds directly in the middle of harvest season, the event will be held on Saturday, August 23 from 4:00 to 10:00 pm at the Jim Kook Rec Plex.
Organizers are currently looking for businesses and community groups to get involved in the event, where they can join as a sponsor with a booth of their own or without. As well, those taking part are encouraged to serve up a potato dish, owing to the theme of the event, and they can also raise funds for a cause of their choice.
Fireworks will conclude the event at approximately 10:00 that night.
Those with any questions or comments can contact town CAO Kevin Trew at [email protected] for more information.
The news of this upcoming event follows the announcement that was made concerning the next edition of the Prairie Festival, which is now on the books for the weekend of May 29-31 next spring. This will be the 5th annual edition of the event, and the call is already going out for any entertainers (musicians, dancers, performers, artists), community groups, volunteers and sponsors who'd like to be a part of the weekend festivities.
Anyone who may be interested in being a part of next May's events can contact Kate King at [email protected].
