Two silver, one bronze for local high schools at Hoopla

Unity and Wilkie high school basketball teams all earn medals at SHSAA provincial basketball championships

UNITY ‑ Unity boys' and girls' basketball teams and the McLurg girls' team were part of the March 25-26 provincial basketball championships known as Hoopla.

UCHS boys, in the 3A division, consisted of opening game March 25 held in Osler. Results were Osler VAC - Regina Christian 90-60; Unity - Fort Qu'Appelle 60-59. This win qualified UCHS for the gold medal match with a final of Osler gold - Unity silver 71-48. (Regina Christian won bronze, 98-62.)  

UCHS girls, in the 3A division, played their provincial event in Indian Head. March 25 games that determined who advanced to gold medal game saw Indian Head - Kamsack 66-55; St. Walburg - Unity 59-50.  This loss put Unity in the bronze medal game on March 26 where they played Kamsack and won bronze by a score of 59-50. Third-ranked St. Walburg won gold 65-47. 

McLurg girls, played in the 2A division. Their path at their provincial event took place in Wynyard. Their opening game was against MJ Cornerstone where they won a tight game 63-60 and Wynyard defeated Norquay 75-42.  This put Wilkie in the gold medal game against Wynyard.  The gold medal game final score was 81-43 for Wynyard, earning Wilkie a silver medal March 26.  MJ Cornerstone won bronze.
