A public meeting for Wilkie in April to review a number of topics

Swimming pool fundraising continues and a volunteer appreciation supper is being held noted as part of the monthly mayor's report from Wilkie

WILKIE -  Spring has come and with that the final day to use the arena ice was on March 27. The arena ice has since been removed for the season. I would like to congratulate all the teams on their hard work and dedication this season.

I would also like to take the time to congratulate two former McLurg students Treyton Pernitsky who won a silver medal at the Can-West championships earning him a spot in the upcoming Nationals competition and Kabri Sittler who also captured a silver medal at the Can-West championship.

Wrestlers from McLurg High school, coached by Chris Kent, had a remarkable showing at the SHSAA Provincial wrestling competition held earlier in March with both the boys and girls being awarded the Provincial 3A Champions! These kids brought home some amazing finishes with Darren Toothill bringing home a gold medal, Piper Kent and Andy Gallernault brought home silver medals and Zara Meier, Scott Huber and Cody Bleier brought home bronze medals. What an amazing showing by these athletes.

It has been a busy time for students at McLurg as they also competed in both Jr. and Sr. curling. The mixed Jr. curling team brought home a District Bronze medal. The Sr. mixed, Sr. girls & Sr. boys curling teams all made it out of Districts and advanced to regionals. Congrats on your hard work and dedication.

The Sr. Girls Basketball team also had an amazing season. They came out on top in both Conferences and Regionals and advanced to Hoopla Provincial basketball for 2A Girls in Wynyard. The girls played awesome and made it to the Provincial final and brought home a Provincial Silver medal. Congratulations girls.

The Wilkie & District Culture Parks & Recreation Board is hosting another fundraising event with proceeds going towards a new swimming pool. The Johner Brothers Concert is being held on June 11. This is meant to be a family event with a cabaret to follow the concert, tickets will be available at the Wilkie Town Office or by calling 306-843-2692.

Town Council is hosting a public meeting on April 13 at the Saskcan Community Center Dance Hall. Items on the agenda include a pavement replacement program, update on the upgrades to the ice plant and the solar panel project and the creation of a new Joint Fire Association.

The Town of Wilkie and the Wilkie & District Health Foundation are sponsoring a Volunteer Appreciation Supper on April 26. Tickets are free to all volunteers but must be picked up by April 19 as tickets will not be available at the door. This event is to recognize the contribution of the volunteers within our community, we appreciate all you do.

I hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather and I’m looking forward to the upcoming events that are happening in our community.
