Adopt-a-grandparent initiative a passion project for Unity resident

Unity resident orchestrates "Adopt-a-grandparent" initiative

UNITY - Audra Nelson found a passion project four years ago. She decided to pursue an "adopt-a-grandparent" project wherein she would collect donations, either monetary or physical gifts. She and her helpers then shop for and assemble gift bags for residents at Unity Long Term Care.

Prior to COVID-19, these gifts were delivered in person with the help of St. Nicholas himself and she and her team loved the smiles it brought.  While she misses that opportunity, she knows the joy that these simple gifts will bring to residents at this seniors' centre.

"This project would not have the success it does without the continued generosity of Unity residents who contribute to the gifts," says Nelson

The 2021 program presented 33 gifts and treat bags.

Nelson enlists the help of her daughters, Krislynn, Charlee and Sierra, in shopping for and delivering these gifts.

Nelson's actions are another demonstration of the commitment of Unity residents to pay it forward in their community, and Christmas time is a great opportunity to take on a project such as this one.
