Fuel Good Day makes for a feel good experience

Fuel Good Day is a Co-operative Retailing System initiative that began in 2017 to benefit local community charities

UNITY - We all need fuel. Tuesday, Sept. 21, Delta Co-op is hosting their annual Fuel Good Day which offers an added bonus to fuelling up at the Co-op gas bars in the communities of Luseland, Macklin, Unity and Wilkie.

Fuel Good Day is a Co-operative Retailing System initiative that began in 2017 to benefit local community charities. Delta Co-op has participated every year since then, excluding 2020 during the height of the pandemic.

“This day focuses on the membership benefits associated with filling up at your local Co-op Gas Bar," Delta Co-op Marketing Manager Julie Spencer, says.

"Since the launch of Fuel Good Day in 2017, more than $2.4 million have been raised by all the participating Co-ops and re-invested into the communities across Western Canada."

Ten cents from every litre of fuel purchased at participating Co-op gas bars will be donated by Delta Co-op to local swimming pools: Wilkie Community Swimming Pool, Unity Credit Union Aquatic Centre, Luseland Credit Union Community Swimming Pool and Synergy Credit Union Aquatic Centre in Macklin. For every 10-cent donation from every litre purchased, five cents will come from FCL and Delta Co-op matches the remaining five cents.

Delta Co-op’s past Fuel Good Day donations went to Sask. Central Victim Services in 2019, local wildlife federation in 2018 and the community fire departments in Delta Co-op communities in 2017.

In past years, Delta Coop included a barbecue, a bake sale and hosted some fun games for customers, however due to COVID-19 still ruling the environment, these additional activities will not be part of this year’s event.

Instead, Spence says, Delta Co-op will be accepting “round up” donations at the till and nominal donations that can be made at the grocery stores, home centres and gas bars.

“We are hopeful that next year we can once again fire up the barbecue and have some fun community events,” says Spencer.
