Getting the message, town of Unity swaps email addresses

Unity residents are reminded that email addresses to people at the Town of Unity no longer end in @sasktel.net and now need to be directed to new email addresses that included @townofunity.com

UNITY — The town of Unity put out a message to residents through their social media account notifying everyone that as of Feb. 22, email addresses for all of the town’s employees would no longer end in “@sasktel.net.” Any email directed to various people or departments for the town of Unity will end in “@townofunity.com.”

Mayor Sharon Del Frari says the change was necessary because, “SaskTel email was purchased by another company a few years ago. We have had problems, especially with the e-bills to residents. SaskTel staff have not been able to address the issues for us.”

Del Frari says the change will allow office staff to link all personnel to online meetings knowing it isn’t always possible to have everyone in the same room at once, but technology should make this seamless.

What happens to emails “lost” in between, or emails that recently have been sent to former addresses? Will they be automatically redirected to new email addresses, or will there be a grace period for the transfer?

The mayor says they understand that everything should automatically forward. The grace period is free through SaskTel. However, if residents are concerned about a recent email sent or inadvertently send a message to the old @sasktel.net address, to give the office a call to ensure it has been received.

Council members are not presently included in the new email list at this time, but the mayor says they will consult with council for the possibility in the future.

Until then, residents are asked to remove all old town email addresses that once included the @sasktel.net and replace with those listed in the photo included here and, on the town’s, social media which includes an ending of @townofunity.com.
