Kerrobert hosts Gumball Rally and car show

The rally started in Kerrobert and traveled to Unity, Denzil and Luseland

KERROBERT - The community of Kerrobert hosted a unique car enthusiast event Aug. 21. New cars, classic cars and muscle cars cruised down the highways of west central Saskatchewan, with 30 drivers participating.

The Gumball Rally started in Kerrobert and traveled to Unity, Denzil, Luseland before finishing back in Kerrobert at the arena parking lot.

One of the organizers, Ashley Honeker, says, “Once drivers were back at the arena, they positioned their cars so spectators could browse around and take a look at the different cards that were part of this event.”

Honeker says Keith Smith was the main orchestrator of this event with her coming on board to assist. Smith found volunteers at each stop on the drive.

As an added feature of this event, the Kerrobert 4-H Club cooked up burgers, Frank Beausoleil entertained the crowd throughout the evening and the Kerrobert Senior Tigers hockey team ensured everyone was hydrated.

In 17 different prize categories, drivers were selected for awards. The Driver’s Choice award, the main winner of the event, was Allan Laing with his 1947 IHC KB2 panel truck. The People’s Choice award went to Jack Whetter with his 1958 Olds Super 88. Second place winner, Garret Smith, took home a large gumball machine and Sam Somerville, who was named the big event winner, took home some cash and his very own cannonball.

The committee was thankful for community sponsors, participants and those that came out to enjoy the event. Honeker said that they plan to make this an annual event and look forward to an even bigger and better turnout next year.
