Macklin takes series lead in SWHL final

Wilkie Outlaws down one game

WILKIE — The Macklin Mohawks and Wilkie Outlaws played games two and three of the Sask West Hockey League finals this weekend, with the home team winning both affairs 

Game two happened March 18 at the SaskCan Community Centre in Wilkie, with a rambunctious crowd cheering on the Outlaws. It needed overtime, as the teams were tied 1-1 after regulation. Rick Cey scored the overtime winner four minutes into the extra frame, winning the game 2-1 and tying up the series at one game apiece.

Game three occurred March 19 at the Macklin and District Communiplex, and the Mohawk faithful were hanging off the rafters as well to cheer on the home team. Their fans went home happy, as Lukas Biensch’s two goals in the third period powered Macklin to a 5-3 win.

Macklin leads the best-of-five series two games to one. The SWHL trophy will be in the house March 26 for game four as the Mohawks look to win just their second SWHL championship, while the Outlaws look to push the series to the winner-take-all game five. Game five, if needed will take place March 27 in Macklin.
