McLurg high school athlete earns four provincial track medals

Soon to be University of Saskatchewan Huskies track athlete, Emma Egert, McLurg Grade 12 student, finished off her high school track and field experience earning four provincial medals.

WILKIE — Emma Egert, McLurg High School Grade 12 student and soon-to-be U of S Huskies athlete, had a successful SHSAA provincial track and field meet. Emma earned bronze in 200m sprint, silver in 100m sprint, gold in 400m sprint and silver in girls’ hurdles.

McLurg athlete Carter Wakelin earned seventh place in the province in hurdles and fifth place in the province for senior boys’ javelin.

Battle West Athletics, on their social media, acknowledged McLurg principal Greg Mamer repeating a statement made on their page from 2017, “A special thank you to one BW teacher who gives an enormous amount of himself and his time at this special time of year, Greg Mamer. We thank you.”

BWA also made mention that Mamer is entering retirement in February of 2024 and they hope to see him back doing all the track stuff, claiming they don’t even know all he does and they fear the day they have to find out.
