UNITY — Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS) made an announcement, sharing that more than $2.49 million has been provided to various Saskatchewan groups and organizations through charitable gaming grants.

For eight West Central communities, nearly $25,000 will be divided for a wide range of projects. The Battlefords AAA U18 Sharks Female Hockey team, based out of Cut Knife, the Denzil Branch Library, Dodsland Lions Club and the Neilburg Community Hall Club were among some of the recipients of the grant funding.

Luseland saw the highest amount of funds dispersed, at $13,683.47, to be shared between the Luseland Minor Hockey Association and the Luseland Recreation Board. In Macklin, more than $1,800 will be dispersed between Macklin Daycare Inc. and the West Central Wheat Kings U15 AA team.

Five organizations in Unity will share $2,198.47, which includes the Kin Club of Unity, Knights of Columbus Unity #5707, St. Peter’s Catholic Women’s League, Unity Curling Club Inc. and West Central Wheat Kings U13AA team. The Bethany Assisted Living Home, Prairie Branches Enterprises Inc. and Wilkie Playschool Assoc. were also granted funds, totaling $1,517.95 for the community.

These quarterly grants are paid to groups and organizations in good standing that conduct licensed charitable gaming activities such as bingos, raffles, breakopen ticket sales, Texas hold 'em poker tournaments and Monte Carlo events. The grants are equal to 25 per cent of the net revenue raised by each charitable event, up to a maximum of $100,000 per group or organization annually.

The amount of each grant paid by LGS to each charity is calculated by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) based on financial reports and other information submitted by the group or organization. Groups can apply through SLGA's charitable gaming licensing process here.
