Outlaws sweep home and home series against the Miners

The Wilkie Outlaws continue their winning ways

UNITY — It took more effort than was expected, but the Wilkie Outlaws were able to sweep the highway 14 rival Unity Miners in a home and home series this past weekend.

Dec. 17 had the crowd at the Unity Community Centre on the edge of their seats as the home team held off the top team in the league and forced a shootout.

The Outlaws, off the stick of Brock Harrison, were able to take both points back to Wilkie in a 5-4 win.

Miner’s goaltender Ryan Rewerts was absolutely outstanding in net, robbing players of their goals and wallets all night.

The second game on Dec. 18 at the SaskCan Community Centre saw different net minders in Kyle Turk for Unity and Curtis Sander for Wilkie, but the game started out almost the same.

Derek Keller wasn’t going to let that happen as he scored the first two goals for the hometown Outlaws, adding two assists for a four-point night, en route to a decisive 8-3 victory.

In other SWHL scores from Dec. 17 weekend: the Kerrobert Tigers were shut out by the Hafford Hawks and their next game action is Dec. 23. Macklin topped the Kindersley Kippers 9-5. Top two scoring leaders in the league come from the Outlaws in Brock Harrison and Rory Gregoire, with Derek Keller sitting in fourth on this list.
