UNITY – The residents of Parkview Place welcomed honoured guests over the past few months at special recognition suppers.
Parkview manager Paula Sittler said they wanted to showcase those in the community who help the residents of the building happy and healthy. In June, a Celebration of Service was held to thank the doctors in the community on top of the Parkview Place board members and the town council. Later in July, the staff with home care was invited to join residents for a surf and turf supper.
The final supper was in recognition of the emergency services found in Unity. The fire department, police department and first responders were the honorees for October’s supper. Seventeen guests joined the seniors for a pasta supper.
“Many of the residents have never had the need for emergency assistance. However, they are grateful to have their presence in Unity,” says Sittler.
Parkview sees assistance from EMS as much as four times a month, usually after a resident has a fall. This past spring, RCMP was on site after the sudden death of a resident.
“The member that attended was very compassionate and professional during that difficult time,” adds Sittler.
The residents were able to converse with the guests after the meal. A long-time member of the fire department noted that an evening such as this was new for them and they already looking forward to the next event.
