Provincial and national success for Cut Knife bowlers

Cut Knife Country Lanes celebrates the season's success with year-end banquet and awards

CUT KNIFE — Cut Knife Country Lanes celebrated its youth bowling program with a year-end banquet and awards.

The 2022-23 season included two leagues. Monday sessions were the first time trying a YBC mentor league with coaches, parents and community members playing with older competitive YBC bowlers. The success of this inaugural year has the club hopeful it will happen again next year.

Wednesday after-school league saw both returning and new bowlers.

“We are fortunate to be supported by many groups and organizations, and we would like to thank Cut Knife Rec. Board and Sask. Lotteries for their sponsorship, which enables bowlers to compete in tournaments near and far,” Program co-ordinator Tracey Anseth says,

A number of other donors and sponsors enable the program to have a reduced registration fee along with club T-shirts, as well as prizes and monthly draws.

Their season held several highlights. The YBC Nationals were held in Oshawa, Ont. at Neb’s Fun World. Akeira Anseth competed in the junior girls’ singles event as the Saskatchewan provincial winner. She advanced through the round robin undefeated and in the gold medal match against a Newfoundland competitor, she scored a 270 to capture the gold medal, giving the Cut Knife Country Lanes their first national banner for YBC.

Several other competitions around the province were attended by Cut Knife YBC bowlers.

Aaron, who finished third for boys and Akeira who finished first for girls, advanced to provincials in January held in Prince Albert.

From the zone single’s finals, held in Biggar in November, Akeira finished first in the junior girls’ division and advanced to provincials in December. Akeira captured the provincial title and will compete at the national finals in May.

The junior boys’ team of Aaron and Cole represented the zone and finished second in Lloydminster earning them a berth to provincials.

One team competed in the Junior Provincials in Prince Albert March 5. Aaron and Cole represented our zone, as they finished second.
