UNITY — The end of another fun-filled year of dance at Flourish Studios wrapped up with students performing at the third annual Spring Recital. With many family, friends and community members in attendance, the students put on an afternoon spectacle.
The studio grew in size this year to 56 students, 20 of whom were new.
“We are incredibly grateful for this fast-growing community, and our hearts are full, knowing we get to do what we love with the kids who make it all worthwhile,” said Flourish owner and dance instructor Amy Briggs.
Flourish Studios Dance Academy offers a wide range of classes for just about anyone. New classes this past year included MammaFit and Tumble Tots, along with the competitive and performance dance programs. The Main Street space also added a family room, equipped with toys, a television, comfortable seating and a hot beverage station for parents to enjoy. A baby change table was also installed, accommodating younger siblings and dancers who enter the establishment.
“We want every family to feel at home here, and this cozy space is just one more way we’re welcoming everyone in with open arms,” added Briggs.
At this year’s recital, the studio took a moment to recognize two graduating students who are leaving their dancing shoes behind. Mercedez Magnus and Sadie Risling, both graduating this spring, were described as “incredible young women who have grown into such inspiring role models and will be missed dearly.” Magnus will be going to Italy to take part in an international welding program, while Risling will study biology at Mount Allison University in New Brunswick.
Flourish Studio’s performance program was designed for students who enjoy dancing and weekly classes but are unable to commit to competitions. Briggs said this program has been a huge success for the studio, and she enjoys watching the dancers gain confidence, form friendships and perform. The students were able to showcase their hard work at the Spring Recital for the audience.
Competitively, 45 dancers represented their studio and community at four locations this season: Sherwood Park, Alta.; Drumheller, Alta.; Saskatoon; and Regina. The troupe brought home a total of 63 awards and scholarships.
“We can’t wait to see what next season brings. Until then, keep dancing, keep dreaming and never stop shining,” said Briggs.
