SWNA finalists announced, Press-Herald has several nominations.

Efforts of the Unity-Wilkie Press-Herald team were recognized as several finalist nominations were announced for the SWNA better newspapers competition

UNITY — The annual Saskatchewan Weekly Newspaper Association has announced their finalists for their 2023 Better Newspaper competition and the Unity-Wilkie Press-Herald was included in several categories.

The trio of Tim Holtorf, Helena Long and Sherri Solomko were named finalists for their “Salute to Veterans” special page.

Reporter Sherri Solomko has two of three finalist nods for best headline writing for “Unity’s cobbler puts his heart and ‘sole’ into 63-year career” and “It’s snovertime for community public works departments”.

Sherri Solomko, in partnership with Helena Long, were announced as a finalist in the category for best business writing for her story on Unity’s Dusan Maljan six-decade career.

Helena Long has won five previous awards for her photography skills and is once again a finalist in the best sports photo category.

Awards will be handed out via an online award presentation on May 12.
