Tradition continues in Unity with annual night lights football game

A supportive crowd was on hand to cheer on the Unity Jr. Warriors in their night lights game against Macklin on Sept. 23

UNITY - It has become a tradition in Unity. The Warriors football hosts one or more of their regular season games in a night lights version. The event is bolstered by contributions from the local community who host prize giveaways, guaranteed 50/50 jackpot, half-time activities and more.

The senior Warrior football team was to have hosted the Wilkie Broncs Sept. 23. An entire event was laid out that would bring people to the field for some outdoor activity that included this football game. However, when the Warriors learned that Wilkie was forced to forfeit they didn’t want the opportunity to go by the wayside, so Warrior parents and event organizers quickly changed course and moved the Unity Minor Football tackle team into this night lights slot.

The evening kicked off with a special presentation when Warrior Field was dedicated and renamed “Pat Orobko Field." The Unity Junior Warriors scored quickly and often soundly defeating the opposing Macklin team. Delta Co-op and Unity Credit Union, along with their mascots, hosted some half-time activity with multiple winners be awarded in the kickoff contest and many kids in attendance catching footballs from Fat Cat.

A good crowd was present as people seemed to appreciate the opportunity to gather safely outdoors in an event style activity.
