UCHS student places first in archery provincials

UCHS celebrates success stories of six archery students.

UNITY — Unity Composite High School archery team members were Sebastian Lauinger, Steyn Hoogstad, Ram Felipe, Cameron Kelly, Grace Heck, and Natalia Heck.

Throughout the year we had tickets the archers put into a draw for a variety of prizes bought with money donated from the Unity Wildlife Federation for every score of nine or 10. The year-end high score winner for the boys was Sebastian. The reserve high score winner was Steyn. The year-end high score winner for the girls was Grace and the reserve high point winner was Natalia.

Our first tournament was in Stettler on Feb. 12. Sebastian was top archer and he placed second with a 256 in the junior boys’ category. He was also the top Grade 8 boy and earned a shirt.

Our second tournament was in Castor March 12. Sebastian placed first with a 273 in the junior boys’ category. He was also the top Grade 8 boy. Ram also shot a personal best at this tournament with a score of 260.

Our third tournament was provincials: Sebastian placed first out of 91 with a score of 277. Steyn had a score of 267 placing seventh out of 58. Ram scored of 245 placing him 23rd out of 58 and Grace scored of 234 placing 27th out of 82. Cameron had a shoulder injury and could not compete.

The team would like to thank Ram for an amazing six years of archery. You were a great role model for everyone. We wish you all the best in whatever you do after high school. Ms. Van De Meutter is also going to miss Ram’s parents. They were such huge supporters, never missing a tournament.

The team would also like to thank to Ms. Riddell. She is retiring and we thank you for all the time you spent co-coaching with Ms. Van De Meutter.
