UCHS travel club enjoys four European countries over Easter

Twenty-four people representing UCHS travel group enjoyed Easter break experiencing cuisine, culture and four different countries.

UNITY — Thirteen students, eight parents and grandparents and three teacher chaperones from Unity Composite High School enjoyed a four-country tour over the Easter break.

The group toured Switzerland, Italy, France and Spain featuring the Alps and the Mediterranean coast.

The UCHS group flew into Zurich, Switzerland on Easter Sunday, doing a city tour before heading to their hotel. One of the day’s highlights included the fountain of flowers

“A lot of kids really enjoyed Switzerland and the Alps,” teacher chaperone, Kyle Clark, said.

“I think the stark difference in geography compared to Saskatchewan was a real eye opener.”

On day two of the 10-day experience, the group drove to Lucerne to experience a city tour and enjoyed a boat trip across Lucerne Lake while also taking a tram up to the top of Mt. Riga in the Alps.

Day three they were off to Como, Italy touring the city, with day four visiting three different towns that are part of Cinque Terra on the Mediterranean coast.

The group travelled to Monaco, known for being home to Prince Rainier and Princess Grace.  They also toured Nice.

Day six students were very intrigued with their trip to Avignon visiting the Papal Place and wandering around the walled city.

The UCHS travel group also had the opportunity to visit Nimes, a Roman Amphitheatre, a tour of the city and visiting Pont Du Gard, the old Roman aqueduct. From there they travelled to Barcelona, ensuring they maximized their experience by swimming in the Mediterranean ocean, followed by shopping on a popular tourist street in Barcelona, known as Las Ramblas.

The final day included a bus and bike tour of Barcelonaand a visit to Sagrada Familiar and Park Guell.

Unity Composite High School Travel Club and travel club participants filled social media with an abundance of photos from their adventure, sure to be remembered for years to come.

Even though the group experienced some travel delays on flights home, they arrived back safe and sound and have gained a new appreciation for cultures, cuisine and countries outside of their own.
