UMB AGM sees some executive changes

Unity Minor Ball wraps up 2021 at annual general meeting, prepares for next season

UNITY — Unity Minor Ball held their annual general meeting and in addition to some updates on this season and next, some executive changes came about.

Two executive members stepped down from their positions with replacements being named. Doug Rutley served as softball co-ordinator for many years and this position will now be filled by Ryan Greenwald. Rene Feser also served a number of years as umpire co-ordinator and Trevor Green was elected to take on this role.

“Both Doug and Rene were instrumental in the operation of our club and will be missed,” says UMB president Regan L’Heureux.

A budget is in the works and future plans include replacing shale and fixing outfield playfield surfaces starting in 2022. A long-range plan includes giving one diamond a fresh look each year until they are all completed.

Memorial donations have been directed to UMB from the late Oscar Housen; a boon to the organization. Late in 2021, UMB installed a new bench in the park to commemorate these contributions, intended to celebrate all the things Housen r did for UMB before he passed away.

The ball diamonds facility is a desired venue for hosting baseball and softball events. The U18 baseball team won provincial gold on their home diamonds in 2021. Softball has put in bids to host a couple of girls’ provincial championships in 2022. The organization looks forward to learning if those bids were successful.
