UNITY — On Feb. 26, the Unity and District Multiple 4-H Club held their annual public speaking event.

Members can choose any topic that interests them and speak about it for one to eight minutes depending on their age category.

This year's winners and their topics were: Cloverbud - Joseph Vold (Pirates), Faustina Ogrodnick (All About Cats), Dulcissima Ogrodnick (All About Blue Jays); Junior - Cutter Lewin (TP), Cyrus Vold (Combines), Gil Pitura (Leonardo DiCalfrio); Intermediate - Annie Pitura (Stress), Casey Lewin (The Creation of Popcorn), Jude McGonigle (From Page to Screen); Senior - Taylor Ducherer (Friend or Foe), Sebastian Lauinger (My Trip to South Africa), Cooper Lewin (A Look Back at My Years In 4-H).

The first two from each category will be moving on to districts in Senlac.

Judges, Vicki Orobko, Angie Nicolson, Kathy Jones, and Jo Ann McGonigle, volunteered their time on a cold, stormy night. The club also appreciated Brian Woytiuk and Terry Smith for plowing the parking lot of the Agroplex.

Parents, grandparents, and community members continue to support the local 4-H club.

Public speaking is an important and mandatory part of the 4-H program. Many people who have gone through 4-H say the speeches are the hardest but most valuable part. Speeches help build communication skills and confidence in speaking in front of large groups.
