Unity, Kerrobert and Macklin winners at Sask. Provincial Music Festival, on to nationals

Unity Music Festival and Prairie Sunset Music Festival performers who were recommended for provincial competition have advanced to Canada West Performing Arts Festival upcoming in Edmonton.

UNITY, KERROBERT, MACKLIN — Steyn Hoogstad, representing both Prairie Sunset and Unity music festivals in spoken word earned the Alfredo S. Uy Memorial Scholarship for Poetry/Prose and the Doris Bircham Memorial Concert Group Scholarship, 17 years and under. 

In the Canada West Competition for spoken word, 17 years and under winners were Steyn Hoogstad, first place and Willem Hoogstad, second place. Both represented Unity Festival and will advance to the Canada West Performing Arts Festival in Edmonton. 

Macklin’s Line Linde, representing Prairie Sunset Music Festival won third place in Canada West Competition for Musical Theatre, 13 years and under as well as placed third in Canada West Classical Voice class and will move on to compete at Canada West Performing Arts Festival in Edmonton.

Kerrobert's Eliana Bakanec also advanced to Canada West Performing Arts Festival in Edmonton for her second place earned in 13 and under strings. 

A number of Unity-Wilkie Press-Herald readership area participants were part of the Saskatchewan Music Festival competition.

Prairie Sunset Music Festival, based out of Luseland and Kerrobert, recommended the following participants: Brooke Bruce from Luseland, Eliana Bakanec, Susannah Bakanec, both from Kerrobert, Line Linde from Macklin, Steyn Hoogstad and Willem Hoogstad, Macklin.

Unity Music Festival recommended the following participants: Mayla Williams, musical theatre; Molly Orobko, Piano; Willem Hoogstad, spoken word; and Steyn Hoogstad, spoken word. The Hoogstad brothers reside in Macklin but attend school in Unity.
