Delta Co-op held a grand opening for their new C-Store/gas bar on the north service road of Highway 14 west

Unity Community 4-H Club held their Beef Achievement Day. Barry Davisson won the trophy for best-fed calf, while aggregate winners were Kathy Kirkland and Shirley Bloder in juniors and Trudy Coid and Ann Kirkland in seniors.

Macklin Hospital Auxiliary held a banquet to recognize and thank Candy Stripers and their parents. Betty Sieben received a floral brooch and a certificate for three years’ voluntary service.

Reward Hall was to the site of a garden party being hosted by the Elks Lodge of Unity, with dancing in the hall and a garden party outdoors. Admission was $1.50 per person with music by Brandle’s Orchestra.

Unity Lions Club commissioned a committee to prepare a book on the history of Unity. Committee members were H. Verney, A.J. Tovey, Reg Deeley, Alex Ralston, L.H. Housen and Len Boxell. Residents were asked to submit information and materials to Alex Ralston at Ralston’s Electric.

Luseland Grade 9 student Meaghan Finley won the high jump gold medal at the provincial track and field meet.

Heavy rainfall resulted in extensive water damage to the Wilkie post office. As a result, the post office was temporarily moved to the Wilkie Community Centre curling rink lounge.

Some 550 former residents and students of the Leipzig Convent gathered to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Canadian province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. The Convent operated as a SSND school from 1927 to 1969.
