West Central U18AA Wheat Kings looking to rebound in second half of season

Wilkie's Kaden Cey leads the team stats with West Central U18AA Wheat Kings with 25 points in 24 games played

UNITY — The West Central U18AA Wheat Kings finished the first half of the season, playing 24 games. Of those games they have seven wins, 15 losses and two overtime losses.

Team manager, Melissa Cey, says “We are fighting for a playoff spot and every game matters from now on. There is going to be some pressure for the players to step up and really give it their all each game. We have all but one player back from injuries going into January.”

The team will participate in the annual Fred McBeth tournament in Regina on Jan. 13 weekend, which brings teams in from across western Canada. The tournament provides an opportunity to play new teams as well as showcase talent for scouts who come to check out a larger group of players at once.

Cey adds, “In December, we started bringing out a seventh player at each of our home games. It has been an overwhelming success. We have had numerous kids enter and I wish every one of them could get the chance to skate with the team. The joy in those kids faces is priceless. This year has been extra special because there have been some siblings that got to go out with their big brother. This will be something we look to bring back next year.”

The WCWK would like to thank their affiliate players as they have been struggling to keep healthy players in their roster. Affiliates and their families step up to help them , sometimes even driving three hours each way for one game.

Affiliates for the WCWK for this season include: Cale Johnstone – Eston; Jayden Holland – Kindersley; Levi Krahn – Kindersley; Branden Miller – Kindersley; Bennett Seversen – Kindersley; Lucas Bell – Rosetown; Kyran Amola – Kerrobert; Lucas Richmond – Kerrobert; Riley Kohlman – Macklin; Logan Friedrich – Macklin; Issac Fleck – Macklin; Rhett Partington – Macklin; Hudson Bretzer – Unity; Carter Wakelin – Wilkie; Zac Hango – Wilkie; and Emerson Cey – Scott.
