WADENA – Wadena RCMP seized a quantity of illicit drugs, firearms and ammunition following two separate traffic stops earlier this month, resulting in multiple charges against two Saskatchewan men.
Cocaine, crack cocaine, methamphetamine found
On Aug. 6, at about 11 a.m., RCMP officers attempted to stop a vehicle in Kylemore. The male driver failed to comply, pulling into a residential driveway and refusing to follow police instructions.
Officers arrested the suspect and found 97 grams of cocaine, 27 grams of crack cocaine, and seven grams of methamphetamine on his person. A search of the vehicle revealed a set of brass knuckles and a semi-automatic handgun.
Daniel McFarlane, 37, of Wadena, faces numerous charges, including possession of drugs for the purposes of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a loaded, prohibited firearm without a licence, unsafe storage of a firearm, and three counts, resisting arrest/obstructing a peace officer.
McFarlane remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Wadena Provincial Court on Sept. 4.
Loaded firearm and lots of ammo found in vehicle
Two days later, on Aug. 8, at about 6:15 a.m., Wadena RCMP responded to multiple reports of a suspected impaired driver near the beach at Fishing Lake First Nation. Officers located the vehicle in Wadena, where the driver failed to comply with police instructions and was arrested. A search of the vehicle uncovered two firearms, one loaded, and several hundred rounds of ammunition.
Nathan Kayseas, 39, of Fishing Lake First Nation, faces 17 charges, including, two counts, possession of a firearm without a licence, two counts possession of firearm that was obtained through the commission of an offence, four counts possession of ammunition while prohibited from possessing, use of a firearm in a careless manner, two counts, drive a motor vehicle knowing a firearm was inside, two counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts, drive while prohibited, drive while prohibited, having a blood alcohol level over 80 mg/100ml within two hours of ceasing driving, and resisting arrest.
Kayseas was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear by CCTV in Wadena court on Aug. 21.
