Assiniboia to host 24th annual Sask. Country Music awards

The event promises to be an unforgettable celebration of Saskatchewan country music.

ASSINIBOIA - The Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA), the Town of Assiniboia and the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association announced the 34th annual SCMA Awards Show will take place at the brand new state-of-the-art Southland Co-op Centre on Saturday, June 10.

The event promises to be an unforgettable celebration of Saskatchewan country music, featuring performances from some of the brightest stars in the industry.

To kick off the weekend-long festival, the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association and Prince of Wales Centre will be hosting a Thursday Night Stars and Guitars banquet, then we turn the heat up with the kickoff party cabaret on Friday, June 9, featuring local Saskatchewan talent and a special appearance by The Washboard Union, the CCMA country band of the year.

“It’s an honour to be hosting this event in Assiniboia and all of southern Saskatchewan will be excited to have such an amazing list of country talent coming to perform in the Southland Co-op Centre,” said Curtis Nelson, president of the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association,

“This is an amazing opportunity for the SCMA to be teaming up with a great group of local Saskatchewan entrepreneurs, and I can’t wait to see this world-class show come to life,” added Steve Huber, president of the SCMA.

Saskatchewan is a hotbed of Canadian country talent, with stars like Tenille Arts, Jess Moskaluke, and The Hunter Brothers, just to name a few.

The SCMA is excited to showcase the next generation of Saskatchewan country music acts, and Huber said, “we’ll all be looking for the next group of country music stars!”

Having a special appearance by The Washboard Union at kickoff cabaret will be an amazing opportunity for many of these acts to perform alongside the award-winning Canadian country music superstars. “If you look at the pedigree of The Washboard Union, it’s almost unbelievable that they’ll be here,” said Huber. “It truly is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many of these artists.”

Tickets for the 34th Annual Saskatchewan Country Music Awards go on sale on Friday, March 17, online www.sasktix.ca, starting at 10 a.m. Residents are encouraged to be a part of this incredible celebration of Saskatchewan country music in Assiniboia, the Heart of the Golden South.
