Electric vehicle fee now in effect

SGI says fees will support road and highway maintenance
Electric car
Auto owners are now subject to a $150 fee when they register an electric vehicle.

REGINA ‑ SGI is collecting the newly introduced $150 electric vehicle road-use fee on behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan for any registrations effective Oct. 1 or later.

This annual fee is due at the time of registration/renewal.

According to an SGI press release, the fee will be used to help maintain Saskatchewan’s roads and highways.

As of Sept.22, there were 611 electric vehicles registered in Saskatchewan. Some customers don’t register their vehicle year-round (in mid-March, there were only 403 actively registered), so customers who register their vehicle for less than a year will have the $150 fee prorated based on the length of the term.
