You will be able to do ice fishing for free this Family Day long weekend.

REGINA - Free Fishing Weekend in Saskatchewan is coming back.

The annual weekend returns Feb.18 to 20, and is being touted as a prime opportunity for residents and visitors to Saskatchewan to try ice fishing without having to get a fishing licence. It coincides with the Family Day weekend.

All other regulations still apply. Possession limits remain in effect including reduced limits on certain waterbodies. Fishing weekend only applies to provincial waterbodies outside of national parks, and anyone planning on transporting fish outside of the province will still require a valid Saskatchewan angling licence.

People are also being urged to stay safe by telling people where you will be and when you will return, by dressing for the weather, and by being aware of ice thickness. More information on sport fishing regulations and ice fishing safety can be found in the Saskatchewan Anglers Guide or by visiting saskatchewan.ca/fishing.

"We have world class fishing in Saskatchewan, and we don't let the cold temperatures prevent us from taking full advantage of it," Environment Minister Dana Skoropad said in a news release. "Free fishing weekend is the perfect opportunity to try your hand at one of our province's favourite pastimes."
