Media from across Saskatchewan have united for the Day of Caring, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for wildfire evacuees across the province.

Final update: The Saskatchewan Day of Caring radiothon raised more than $643,000 for wildfire relief by 6 p.m. Thursday, with federal matching funds still to come.

“What an extraordinary day of generosity and community spirit,” said Glenn Rogers, Golden West content lead. “Nutrien kicked us off this morning by matching donations up to $100,000—and with the public’s overwhelming support and generosity, they were inspired to increase their total donation to $300,000.

“Together, we have raised $343,156.30 from individual and corporate donors. With Nutrien’s contribution, that brings today’s total to $643,156.30,”

The tally includes a $50,000 donation from Gordon Rawlinson, $25,000 from Trail Appliances and $14,000 from Orano.

The Saskatchewan Day of Caring donation page will remain open through the weekend. The federal government is to match individual donations, which hasn’t been included in the total yet. The final total to be announced Monday morning, and the federal government will matching donations through the weekend as well.

Funds raised through the Canadian Red Cross Saskatchewan 2025 Wildfires Appeal will help provide emergency shelter, food and essential supplies to those forced from their homes due to wildfires.

Update:  As of 4 p.m., donations to the Saskatchewan Day of Caring have reached $322,156.70 in support of wildfire evacuees.

That figure includes a $10,000 donation from Sherwood Co-op, $15,000 from the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation and $10,000 from Travelodge Saskatoon in the last hour. The total does not yet include the Government of Saskatchewan’s pledged matching funds, meaning the final amount is expected to rise significantly.

Update: The Saskatchewan Day of Caring has now raised $298,079.50 as of just after 2 p.m., including a $100,000 matched donation from Nutrien. Organizers say the match helped “kick-start an incredible day of giving” and are encouraging residents to keep the momentum going to support wildfire relief efforts across the province.

Update: As of 12 p.m., the Saskatchewan Day of Caring radiothon has raised $122,879.50 in support of wildfire evacuees — or $222,879.50 with Nutrien’s matching contribution. The total does not yet include the Government of Saskatchewan’s pledged match, meaning more growth is expected as donations continue to roll in throughout the day. The radiothon is ongoing.

Original report: SASKATCHEWAN — As the Saskatchewan Day of Caring continues across the province, the first update of the day shows $86,880.20 raised as of 9:52 a.m. in support of families displaced by this year’s devastating wildfires.

This total includes a major $25,000 donation from Saskatoon Co-op, with more contributions expected to come in throughout the day. The figure does not yet include matching funds pledged by the Government of Saskatchewan or Nutrien, meaning the final tally could climb significantly.

Radio stations and media outlets from nearly every corner of the province — including Saskatoon, Regina, La Ronge, The Battlefords, and beyond — have joined forces for the province-wide radiothon, aimed at supporting the Canadian Red Cross Saskatchewan 2025 Wildfires Appeal.

Premier Scott Moe and emergency officials have stressed the importance of community support as wildfires continue to burn across northern regions, forcing evacuations and threatening homes.
