SASKATCHEWAN — Update 3:41 p.m.: As the storm continues to move through the province, Saskatchewan RCMP are reminding the public to avoid unnecessary travel. Road conditions in several parts of the province are deteriorating and Saskatchewan RCMP officers are responding to an increased number of traffic-related calls and collisions.
Drivers are reminded to check weather advisories and road conditions with the Highway Hotline before travelling – and to stay home if travel is not recommend or highways are closed on your route.
Drivers should be prepared for anything: consider stocking your vehicle with extra warm clothes, candles, matches, non-perishable snacks, a snow shovel, traction mats, booster cables and a tow rope or chain.
If you become stranded on the highway, do not leave your vehicle! Turn on your vehicle periodically to warm up, but try to conserve fuel. Make sure your tailpipe remains clear of ice and snow, or carbon monoxide could potentially seep into your vehicle.
12:30 p.m.: RCMP are urging residents to avoid any unnecessary driving during poor weather.
At 12:30 p.m., RCMP issued a warning. Officers across the province are reporting that weather is impacting road conditions. Roads may be slippery/icy and snow-covered due to weather conditions/gusting winds and visibility may be reduced – especially if someone passes you.
Drivers are asked to check road conditions before travelling – and to stay home if travel is not recommended on their route. If you absolutely must travel, ensure you have plenty of gas, a fully charged cell phone, food, water and extra warm clothing packed.
